Barcelona's Lionel Messi became the Champions League's all-time top scorer with a hat-trick against Apoel Nicosia.

The little magician stole the show for FC Barcelona as he completed a stunning hat-trick against APOEL Nicosia. It was also a game to remember for Luis Suarez as the Uruguayan scored his first competitive goal for FC Barcelona.

Lionel Messi had already equaled the Real Madrid legend Raul’s record against Ajax on matchday 4 and has now overtaken it in only 91 matches which is all the more important considering it took Raul 142 games in Europe to reach this number.
It did not take long for Messi to break the record as he deflected home a shot from Rafinha in the 39th minute. He struck again just before the hour mark and then completed his hat-trick in the dying minutes. Speaking after the game about his record, Messi said that he is extremely happy with his performance.

Messi said: “I’m happy about the record. It makes me very happy to have achieved such a nice record in such an important competition – but what really mattered were the three points we took from tonight’s match. FC Barcelona put in a great game”.
